One player who felt frustration in Round 2 was Tiger Woods. He was
delighted with the way he struck the ball in his round of 5-under 68
Thursday, even if he did send up a cautionary flag because of some putting
woes. Well, those putting woes intensified yesterday. Woods missed birdie
putts inside of 8 feet on three consecutive holes starting at the par-4
sixth, then missed a 4-footer at the par-4 13th. The low point came
at the 18th when he rolled an eagle putt 3 feet long, then missed the
comebacker and settled for par. Having used 32 putts Thursday, he took
32 more in his round of 68 -- 136, tied for sixth. So frustrating was
the day that when Woods slam-dunked a 20-footer from the front of the
green at the par-4 14th, he spread his arms, took off his hat, looked
to the sky, took a bow, and laughed. "I'm going home. To hell with it,"
said Woods, when asked if he was headed to the practice green.

on Kapalua's Bermuda greens strongly influences break and speed -- up-grain

Bart
Bryant at Kapalua: "I go out, to shoot 69 today is very gratifying.
I gave a couple away with three-putts, but there's a serious learning
curve on these greens. It's hard to go around out there. Hopefully as
the week goes on, I'll figure out the greens more. But having said that,
I made some good putts as well.", Maui News, HI, 6 Jan 2005
