Geoff Mangum to Lecture at PGA of Europe's
2005 Teaching and Coaching Conference
September 29 -- October 1, 2005
Munich, GermanyPutting guru Geoff Mangum has accepted the invitation of the European PGA to lecture at its 2005 Teaching and Coaching Conference in Munich, Germany, in September. The title of his lecture is: "Welcome to the 21st Century: The Brain-based Model for Putting and the Retooling of Golf Instruction."
The list of speakers at the PGA of Europe's 7 th Teaching & Coaching Conference in Munich on September 29 to October 1 2005 promises to be one of the most distinguished ever assembled in Europe. Mangum will be joined by golf technical guru Frank Thomas, Tiger Woods' swing coach Hank Haney, top international instructor David Leadbetter, England's tour coach Scott Cranfield, BBC golf analyst and writer Beverly Lewis, Science and Motion's Dr. Christian Marquardt, and others.
Mangum is widely recognized as the most knowledgeable and effective putting coach in golf for professional players and elite amateurs. His popular website, The PuttingZone.com, attracts over 50,000 visits monthly from golf's top players and industry insiders and is the top-ranked website in the world for putting. His first PGA Tour student, Shaun Micheel, went from 160th in putting on Tour to winning the 2003 PGA Championship on the strength of his putting within two months of working with Mangum. His first developmental tour pro, Blake Adams, fired a personal-best, course-record, event-record, tour-record 62 the very next morning after a lesson with Geoff and won his event running away from the field. Veteran golf instructors have hailed him as a genius in golf instruction who knows more about putting than anyone on the planet.
Mangum's unique approach to golf instruction is the combination of over 100 years of putting lore with an intensive, 15-year study of the neuroscience of human targeting and movement control processes in the brain and body. His study is so thorough and exhaustive that the National Director of Research for optometric science uses his website to find out about developments in visual science, and his compiled database of annotated research for putting exceeds 10,000 searchable references and has been written about by the Human Kinetics Institute, the world's top motor-learning organization.
Using this knowledge-base, Mangum teaches "The Mechanics of Instinct" for putting to allow the golfer to employ and enhance innate targeting and stroke movement processes during the putting routine. His specially designed routines and techniques are the most innovative in golf instruction in decades, and he regularly teaches the teachers, and has worked with select staff at some of golf's top schools, including the Jim McLean Golf School and the David Leadbetter Golf Academy.
Dr Christian Marquardt
Mangum's specialized knowledge of neuroscience has earned him an advisory role with Germany's Science&Motion, manufacturer of the SAM Putting Lab, an ultrasound putting monitor that uses computer tracking of stroke dynamics to diagnose stroke performance and to instill improved stroke form. In cooperation with SAM inventor and neuroscientist Dr Christian Marquardt, Mangum is shifting the focus of golf putting instruction away from what ought to happen mechanically in towards the human brain and body for how the golfer learns and performs at peak levels on the green.
