Scrambling: 20 of 25 (80.0%) (1st)Curtis seemed to make the right putts at the right time. On the back nine on Sunday, he made a 5 1/2-footer at 10, a 7 1/2-footer at 12, a 9 1/2-footer at 14, a 13-footer at 15 and a 50-footer at 16. These putts kept him in front of Howell. For the week, Curtis sank 51 of 53 putts from 6 feet and in.

Scrambling: 17 of 24 (70.8%) (T16th)Furyk led both the putting average stat (at 1.604) and putts per round (26.75). He is only the third player on the PGA Tour this year to accomplish that feat. He didn't have any three-putts for the week and was 58 for 59 on putts from 9 feet and under. He had 19 birdies, 4th best for the week.
Bart Bryant's stats (with rank in parentheses):
Fairways hit: 45 of 56 (3rd)

Scrambling: 6 of 12 (50.0%) (T68th)Putting has been Bryant's problem this year. He finished 43rd in that stat at 1.762 in 2005, but, his average has climbed to a 1.811 average in '06, which ranks him 169th. Bryant making less putts has seriously brought down his birdie average, as this year he ranks 173rd in that stat compared to 50th last year.

Jim Furyk's stats (with rank in parentheses): Long game: Fairways hit: 42 of 56 (T10th)

Scrambling: 5 of 6 (83.3%) (T4th)For the third time in the last five years at Warwick Hills, Furyk led the greens hit regulation stat. However, his usually reliable putter let him down just a little bit. He took six more putts than Tiger for the week. The stat that showed the difference between Woods and Furyk was in putts from 3 to 8 feet. While Woods was making all of those putts except for one, Furyk was 8 for 12 in that range.

Corey Pavins's stats (with rank in parentheses):
Fairways hit: 34 of 52 (T41st)

Birdies: 21 (T5th)
Scrambling: 15 of 18 (83.3%) (T1st)In the first three rounds, Pavin was a terror on the greens, taking 25 putts in the first round and 24 each in rounds two and three. He took 33 putts in the final round, but that was because he hit all 18 greens in regulation. He was T2nd for the week in number of putts (106) and first in putts per greens hit in regulation (1.593). For the week, Pavin made 53 of 53 putts of 6 feet and under.

Scrambling: 8 of 12 (66.7%) (T20th)Curtis was T7th in putts per round with 28.25 and 4th in putts per greens hit in regulation with a 1.650 average. But that doesn't tell the whole truth about how well he putted. He had 65 putts of 10 feet or less and made all but one of them: an eight-footer that he missed on his final hole in the first round. In addition, Curtis had 31 one-putts, which placed him T10th, but more importantly he was one of only three players that went the whole week without a three-putt green.
Carl Pettersson's stats (with rank in parentheses):
Fairways hit: 47 of 56 (T10th)

3-putt greens: 0
Eagles: 0
Birdies: 18 (T8th)
Scrambling: 18 of 24 (75.0%) (1st)The key to Pettersson's win was his putting. He was T3rd in putts per greens hit in regulation and T1st in number of putts with 105. For the week, he had 35 one-putts, which was T3rd, and he didn't have a single three-putt green. From 8 feet and in Pettersson was almost flawless, making 59 of 60 putts in that range.

Scrambling: 9 of 16 (56.5%) (Rank Not Available)It's a good thing that Haas did hit a lot of greens, because he had the worst putting display of any of the recent past Senior PGA champions. Not only was his 122 putts the most of all the champions since 1997, but he had five three-putt greens for the week, the most of any Senior PGA champion.

Scrambling: 24 of 32 (75.0%) (7th)Plain and simple, Baddeley won because of his putting. He took just 97 putts for the week, making him the first player in 2006 to finish with less than 100 putts in a 72-hole event. Since 1997, this has been done 92 times by 73 players. Baddeley had done this once before, as he took just 95 putts at the 2004 Chrysler Classic of Tucson, where he finished in second place. Baddeley is just the seventh winner since 1997 to finish with less than 100 putts. The last champion to have less than 100 putts was Mike Weir at the 2004 Nissan Open. Since Harbour Town has some of the smallest greens on the PGA Tour, it's not surprising that there have been 22 times since 1997 that a player has had less than 100 putts for 72 holes. At last year's Heritage at Harbour Town, David Frost set an all-time PGA Tour record with 92 putts.
Baddeley had the most one-putt greens of anyone in the field with 43. That's the most one-putts on the PGA Tour in 2006 (for a 72-hole event) and the most one-putts since Tom Pernice, Jr. had 43 at last year's FUNAI Classic at Walt Disney World. The PGA Tour record (for a 72-hole event) is 49 by David Frost at last year's Heritage
Baddeley was a perfect 48-for-48 on putts from 5 feet and under.
Since joining the PGA Tour in 2003, Baddeley has always been one of the best putters. In 2003, he led the Tour in putts per round and finished 3rd in putts per greens in regulation. In 2004, he was 14th in putts per round and 14th in putts per greens in regulation. In 2005, he was 4th in putts per round and 7th in putts per greens in regulation. This year, he is 1st in putts per round and 37th in putts per greens in regulation.

Scrambling: 14 of 22 (63.6%) (43rd)After opening rounds of 64-67-68 gave him a share of the 54-hole lead with Baddeley, a final-round 71 is the reason for Furyk's defeat. After he made a 45-footer for birdie at the 10th hole, Furyk wasn't able to make any more putts. We told you about the putts at 17 and 18, but that wasn't the total story. In the first three rounds, Furyk only missed two of 49 putts from 10 feet and in, but in the final round he was only able to make 2 of 8 putts from 5 to 15 feet. The bottom line is that he just didn't make the big putts when he needed to. Baddeley did have nine less putts than Furyk for the week, but Furyk hit 10 more greens in regulation. But Furyk lagged in scrambling, only getting it up and down 63.6% of the time, which ranked 43rd.

Owen three-putted from just over 3 feet to go from having a two-stroke lead to being tied with Pampling. If Owen had made his first putt of 3 feet, 4 inches on 17, I would be writing about his keys to victory and not Pampling's.
In looking at Pampling's stats, the two that stand out are that he was T4th in total putts (110) and was T2nd in putts per green hit in regulation (1.642). He was particularly sharp from short range, going 56-for-56 on putts from six feet in and 64-for-66 on putts from 10 feet in.

Scrambling: 10 of 17 (58.8%) (41st)Obviously, Owen lost the tournament on the 17th green. It's very rare to see what happened to Owen, as it's something that doesn't happen very often on the PGA Tour. That is because most players are very careful on each stroke, and they don't rush a second putt like Owen did after missing his par putt on 17. That is why NBC made a big deal about him taking just seven seconds from the time he struck the first putt until time he missed the second one. After Owens missed his first putt from 3 feet, 4 inches, he should have taken a deep breath and started the process over again. He didn't. In either anger or haste, he stepped up to the second putt and didn't give it his 100% concentration and missed.
When Owen came to the 17th hole, he had a lot going for him. Through 70 holes of the tournament, he hadn't had a three-putt green all week, and he was 58-for-58 on putts from 6 feet and under. So when he three-putted he broke both of those streaks.
Owen's meltdown on 17 undid the work a great ball-striking week had done to put him in position to win. He ranked 2nd in fairways hit and also 2nd in greens hit in regulation. Owen played the par 5s in 10 under, the best of anyone in the field, and his average number of putts per green hit regulation ranked 13th.

In putts per greens hit in regulation, he ranked T33rd, while he was T56th in total putts. These stats are misleading considering that Woods was tied for the lead in greens hit. If you look at some other putting stats they paint a different story. First, Woods had no three-putts, which is a great chore to accomplish when you hit so many greens. Second, he was a perfect 58-for-58 on putts from 6 feet and under, and if you look at his performance on putts from 10 feet and under, Woods was was 67-for-70. So he had a great putting week.

Scrambling: 15 of 19 (78.9%) (9th)In looking at why Toms came in second instead of winning, one reason was that he played the 18th hole in 3 over par for the week, the worst of any of the Sunday contenders. As for his bad timing, he played 71 holes without a three-putt green, but picked a bad time to have his first one of the week on the final hole. Of course, we don't know what Tiger would have done if he needed par on the last hole for the win, but you can be sure Toms is probably kicking himself over the three-putt.
In looking at Geoff Ogilvy's stats for his first five matches -- these stats are only for regulation play, not the extra holes -- Ogilvy hit 57.4% of his fairways (39 of 68) and 63.2% of his greens in regulation (55 of 87). Of the 55 greens he hit, his average distance from the hole was 32 feet, eight inches. Ogilvy took 122 putts for the 87 regulation holes, which isn't a bad average. One thing that helped save him was his sand play, as he has got up and down 8 of 9 times.
The biggest factor in Geoff Ogilvy's victory was his ability to hang in there when the going got tough. A little bit of luck helped too. In his first four matches, all of which went extra holes, his opponents had putts 10 different times which could have eliminated him. In his ability to escape this week, Ogilvy was like Houdini.
In Ogilvy's first-round match, Michael Campbell was 1 up with a 30-foot birdie putt on the 17th green to win the match. He missed, then Ogilvy made a 4-footer to halve the hole. On the 18th hole, Campbell missed a12-footer for a birdie which could have won the match, then Ogilvy holed a 6-footer for birdie to extend it. Ogilvy then chipped in on the first playoff hole to win the match.
On the 19th hole of Ogilvy's second-round match, Nick O'Hern missed a 40-footer to win the match, then Ogilvy made a 6-footer to extend the match. The 20th hole may have been Ogilvy's biggest escape of the week. He made a 7-foot par putt, then O'Hern missed a 4-footer for birdie that would have won the match. Ogilvy won the match on the next hole with a two-putt birdie.
In Ogilvy's quarterfinal match, David Howell was 1 up on the 17th hole and had a 12-footer for birdie to win the match and missed. On the 18th hole, Howell had another 12-footer to win the match and missed. Ogilvy then drained a 20-footer for birdie to win on the 19th hole.
The final was a tight match through the first 10 holes. Both men played very indifferently, not bad but not good, as they halved every hole (nine of them with pars and the eighth hole with birdies). Love birdied the 11th hole, making a 4-footer for birdie to go 1 up. He then hit his tee shot to 25 feet at 12, while Ogilvy followed with one to 9 feet away. When Love drained his putt first, it looked like things could start slipping away for Ogilvy. But Ogilvy made his birdie putt to halve the hole. Love missed a 14-footer for birdie and the win on the 13th hole, but the putt that everyone thinks changed things around happened at the next hole. After Ogilvy missed a 14-footer for par, Love had a 4-footer for par to win the hole and missed. Love followed with a poor drive at 15, which led to a double bogey, and when Ogilvy made a 7-footer for birdie on 16 he took the lead for the first time. Both players made pars at 17 and birdies at 18.
Ogilvy did not have a single three-putt green in his 129 holes.
